Choose the format of your evening first
The word shooter is not enough to identify a suitable game. You might want an intense solo campaign, a story with changes of combat scale, shared exploration or another attempt with a different weapon setup. The source of enjoyment matters too: accuracy, movement, teamwork or combinations of upgrades. These four games help compare those preferences without promising one option will suit everybody.
Decide whether you will play alone or with friends. Then compare continuous high intensity with choosing individual missions or runs. A campaign and online competition within the same game can feel very different; a genre name and a high review percentage cannot answer that question for you.

Solo campaigns: combat and movement

DOOM Eternal
Maintain combat momentum through movement and weapon changes
- Players
- 1 campaign player
- Mode
- Fast-paced FPS
DOOM Eternal builds its solo campaign around fast encounters with demons. Movement, weapons and replenishing combat resources work together, making the whole toolkit worth learning. Choose it if improving how you handle intense combat sounds rewarding. Select a comfortable difficulty and understand one encounter first: enjoyment may arrive through recognising its rhythm rather than landing the first shot.
Keep in mind: Fast action, graphic violence and reaction demands. The campaign is single-player; multiplayer is a separate mode.

Titanfall® 2
Alternate a mobile soldier with a heavy machine
- Players
- 1 campaign player
- Mode
- Pilot-and-Titan FPS
Titanfall 2 offers a solo story about a Pilot and their Titan, linking firefights to the pair’s different combat capabilities. Choose it for movement, changes of scale and a story-led route between encounters. Try the campaign first to learn the controls and discover which role you prefer. Assess multiplayer separately: enjoying the story does not oblige you to compete against other players.
Keep in mind: The campaign is for one player. The Steam version requires an EA account; see the store requirements.

Shared shooting: missions and runs

Deep Rock Galactic
Combine shooting, exploration and team tools
- Players
- 1–4 players
- Mode
- Single-player or online co-op
Deep Rock Galactic sends space dwarves into caves for minerals. Shooting matters, but classes also help the team reach a destination and get back out. Consider it for a group interested in a shared mission rather than comparing hit counts. Agree on exploration pace and divide the tools: understanding each role helps friends with different levels of shooter experience enjoy the same evening.
Keep in mind: Supplies and cave navigation matter. Cooperative play is online rather than shared-screen.

Gunfire Reborn
Build a different combat setup in each run
- Players
- 1–4 players
- Mode
- Solo or online co-op roguelite FPS
Gunfire Reborn combines first-person shooting with heroes, weapons and upgrades that form a combat build. Another run invites another combination, and cooperation lets friends discuss their discoveries. Choose it if finding useful synergies matters alongside accurate shots. Begin with a hero whose ability is clear, then notice how the next reward supports the plan you have already chosen.
Keep in mind: Failure ends a run. Repeated runs with changing levels rather than a linear story campaign.

Narrow your search to your kind of shooter
Begin with DOOM Eternal for improving intense combat, or Titanfall 2 for a Pilot-and-Titan story. Compare Deep Rock Galactic for a shared expedition and useful team tools, or Gunfire Reborn for combinations of heroes and weapons. Use the first session to get acquainted with the chosen format rather than requiring a victory.
Add cooperation to the search when it is essential for your group. For a solo evening, read the campaign description separately: a single-player tag cannot explain its structure. Check requirements, supported controls and the trailer on the game page. Choose a difficulty that leaves room to understand the rules first; shooter enjoyment is not measured by the hardest mode.
Quick checklist
- Choose a campaign, missions or repeated runs.
- For a group, check participant counts and online co-op.
- Compare movement pace and resource-management demands.
- Do not treat a broad tag as a promise of particular gameplay.
How we selected these games and how to keep searching
On 10 October 2026 we retrieved candidates through ggpick using the shooter tag. We required released Windows base games, at least 80% positive Steam reviews and 1,000 reviews. Four options were chosen from the actual result set and checked against official pages. This compares activities rather than ranking games from best to worst or listing a whole genre. Older releases are included; displayed figures come from a saved snapshot.
The collection search button repeats these conditions. Add a preferred feature, exclude an unwanted one or find similar games from an individual card. Tags identify candidates but cannot replace checking gameplay and supported modes. If results become too narrow, remove filters one at a time. Reviews and catalogue coverage change, so a future result may differ from the article.

Frequently asked questions
Which options support playing together?
Deep Rock Galactic and Gunfire Reborn support online co-op for up to four players. The DOOM Eternal and Titanfall 2 campaigns featured here are single-player.
Why does a shooter search sometimes include other genres?
Tags describe individual features and come from several sources, making the results broader than this editorial selection. We separately verified that first-person shooting is an important part of the chosen games.
