I've been playing *Atomfall* and, honestly, I'm quite torn about it. There is a lot to like here. The setting is unusual, the British post-apocalyptic atmosphere is excellent, and wandering around the villages and countryside investigating what has happened is genuinely interesting. The world has character, and there are plenty of strange things to discover. But the more I play, the more I feel that *Atomfall* is missing some of the systems that could have turned it from a decent game into a really great one. The biggest problem for me is **progression**. There isn't a traditional levelling system where you steadily develop your character. There isn't a proper armour system where you find increasingly powerful equipment. Loot doesn't have that satisfying RPG progression where you discover something better and think, *"Yes! This is going to make me stronger."* And that makes exploration feel less rewarding than it could be. I keep finding myself thinking about what this game **could** have been. Imagine exploring an abandoned house and finding a better weapon. Finding armour with different protection and bonuses. Discovering a rare piece of equipment that changes how you play. Earning XP, unlocking new abilities, improving your character and gradually becoming more capable. That kind of progression would give you a much stronger reason to explore every corner of the world. Instead, a lot of the time I'm exploring simply because I'm curious about what's there — rather than because I'm excited about what I might actually **gain** from exploring. The lack of a proper fast-travel system early on also makes the back-and-forth travelling more noticeable, particularly when you're trying to investigate multiple leads. And that's the frustrating thing: **the foundations are here.** The world is interesting. The atmosphere is good. The setting is different from the usual post-apocalyptic games. There is a genuinely intriguing mystery underneath everything. But the game feels strangely restrained. It feels like the developers deliberately stopped short of adding the RPG systems that would have made the world much more addictive. For me, *Atomfall* isn't a bad game. Far from it. But it is one of those games where I keep thinking: **"This could have been brilliant."** If it had deeper character progression, meaningful armour and equipment, better loot, more weapon customisation, a proper levelling system and more rewarding exploration, I think I'd be absolutely hooked. Instead, I'm enjoying it, but I'm not getting that *"just one more hour"* feeling that the best exploration/RPG games manage to create. **My verdict so far: 6.5/10** Interesting setting, good atmosphere and some genuinely enjoyable exploration — but ultimately held back by a progression system that feels far too shallow for the world they've created.
permanent aggro is lazy game design for retarded developers. guess i have to make a new game because some moronic loser at rebellion wanted to take a shortcut instead of actually making a good game! thanks!
I found a russian worm spy hiding underground, so I killed him. I hope he wasn't important to play the game.
The gameplay feels very much like Metro, but with a few features I thought made it feel more enjoyable to play. The story is really interesting and I love that I was kept in the dark for most of the game. It really kept me invested in the mystery.
i like this game! so what if the controls aren't buttery smooth! Gives it that much more of a challenge! This game is actually a serious Stealth game, I've only played up to the damn and gonna start that! but running in guns a blazing is a no go, you will find your end if you do! you seriously have to use stealth in this and hide behind doors for cover and slowly take then out one by one and use melee and if all else fails use weapons, but most of the weapons I've found so far are single shot and will only take out one baddy and then pause to reload will get you surrounded in a second! so think before you act! I'm running on Medium settings because i have low specs but the game plays really well on my outdated gaming laptop!

was enjoying it before all the random crashing started, tried a dozen so called fixes but still crashes constantly so it's unplayable and doesn't look like it's ever going to be fixed so epic fail. seems like a cool game, if it works on your rig otherwise it's just fish in the sea
Okay first off, I need to get this off my chest: it's not "like" Fallout nor is it "like" STALKER; it's like Dying Light 2. - "The zone" has more in common with the walled off areas of DL1/2 than it does the zone from Stalker, or the world of Fallout - High quality environmental vs unimaginative character/faction/enemy designs - Protagonist has a magic key that unlocks everything every occupant of the area wants into, given to them by a glorified mcguffin holder in the intro - Skill points found in wide chests left behind by the scientists, often inside previously locked bunkers - Underground/interior sections are so poor they make you realise the core gameplay sucks when you're not in the aesthetically pleasing overworld - Environmental airborne hazards mitigated by concoctions brewed from bright blue fauna which only started growing since "the event" - Two factions that are just sort…

I got it for like 15 bucks, which be honest; anything that looks this nice and offers this much gameplay took effort. No matter how jaded a player you are, games are hard to make, and they have value. But regardless of how much the ticket price is, there's no real way around it: this game is just kind of boring. There's routine issues with multiple aspects of the design - moment to moment gameplay, enemy AI, narrative beats and quest pacing - it all just feels really clunky and poorly put together. Technically, there are textures failing to load in, enemies spawning in places that they really shouldn't or at times they shouldn't, and everything from the inventory to the weapons feel absolutely horrible to use. To bring back the point of comparison: the reason I left up a "recommended" review despite my similar complaints to Dying Light 2 was because, well, the parkour in the game feels amazing, it's just fun to do. I can't say the same about Atomfall. Every time I see a spark of something interesting, the membrane of interaction just pulls the rug out from underneath it. The second I find myself interested in the story, something happens to remind me it's often too much tedium to get to the next beat, and when I do get to the next beat, I often find myself disappointed. Initially, I was intrigued by the voice on the phone. After a while, I found myself getting annoyed because what it had to say simply wasn't interesting. It was vague and unclear less because it was leading to something, and more simply because having something vague and unclear generated intrigue. All in all, it just always feels unpolished, amateur, and lackluster - and in some games with good ideas or novel mechanics, that's not as much an issue. But, Atomfall doesn't have any new ideas or novel mechanics. There's no creative joy in here to compensate for the flaws. I would love to see where the story ends up going, but the delivery of that story and the game surrounding it just exhausts and bores me. The problem isn't "oh, it's a walking sim" or there's not enough combat - it just feels like no matter how you try to play it, it's not fun. I went into it really trying to get an idea of what the game wanted from me, how it wanted me to engage myself with it. But, after enough hours, it just feels like Atomfall doesn't really know what it wants to be, and that lack of identity combined with the lack of enjoyable gameplay - whether that be walking from area to area, combat, or the dialogue system - just makes for an experience that feels tedious and uninspired.
I got the base game at 60% off. I don't think the game is worth its full price, but I appreciate it for being an earnest attempt at being a S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-lite, reminiscent of the vibes+aesthetics that your Bethesda Fallouts / Bioshocks do (minus the goofiness of those two titles). Framing the game in this way allows me to underline that this game is not at all meant to replace the giants of this genre- it's a fun little one-shot "what-if". While the story isn't worth writing home about, it keeps you intrigued enough to keep you going. I consider the gameplay as just a means to get through the "mystery", which is to say that its gameplay is serviceable at best. The stealth isn't great, enemy AI gets stuck with their pathing, harder difficulties are barely challenging and simply require you to use your head (as opposed to sitting back and turning your brain off like in Fallout). The stealth isn't great, enemy AI gets stuck with their pathing, harder difficulties are barely challenging and simply require you to use your head (as opposed to sitting back and turning your brain off like in Fallout). Atomfall tries to do too many things but ultimately never gets one thing quite right. For example: the level designs have bare minimum attempts to provide you with alternate paths leading to one end-goal room but getting to these requires that you engage with the tedious stealth. I'd have preferred the game give me more linearity but with more engaging combat beyond "fill room with enemies that rush at you". It had a few moments like that (The Robotics room in the Interchange) but not enough to sway my opinion. I want more of Atomfall just to see what this team can do to refine (I'd go as far as to say overhaul tbh) the gameplay. If you want something to scratch the itch for STALKER, then buy this on sale.
Good 20 bucks.
How can you not block in a 2026 game????? Rebelion??
amazing game! I played on one of the more challenging modes as folks recommended and I would also recommend that. I got the red strain and wicked isle dlc, both are excellent.there are many possible endings maybe 7 or so between the base gm and these two dlcs. certain choices matter for the ending. took me 70 hour in total to explore everything and complete all leads other than you can only complete one ending lead obviously. a great game with excellent retrofuturism vibes and great engineering and science bases. You do not need to be good at shooters to succeed at this game. well done!
