Fairly few monster types and limited abilities keep this game from being all it could be, but even more crippling is the poor writing and dialogues. Some moments in dialogue and comms are excellent, but you can tell they had some sort of transgender trying to write the relationship parts and the switch in quality is very jarring. That said the gameplay is good, nothing particularly woke or objectionable, and the levels especially are extremely well designed. It isn't too difficult but you will still die a lot, which I would say is very good tuning. The plot is good, though many sections do not resolve very well- its tragic when bosses feel like mere scavenger hunt sidequests. I couldn't decide how I feel about "serious humanity's last stand" style writing mixed with "random bureaucrat red tape whimsy" writing, so expect many parts of the game to feel two-toned. Quite enjoyed Control Resonant. I’ve always had a soft spot for Remedy games, and the narrative and characters are once again a big part of the appeal. Some really interesting set-pieces here. No Elden Ring-level boss battles, but plenty of fun encounters. I thought I was done with open-world games, but apparently not - there's something about having another little area to explore and another thing to investigate that keeps pulling me back in. Looks fantastic, too, and the combat is satisfying. Definitely one of those “just one more thing” games where you look at the clock and wonder where the evening went. Need to upgrade my GPU, though. Poor thing was struggling.
