As someone who has played Gears of War since I was 7 and watched my dad play it as early as I can remember...This game is perfect so far (or in general depending how many hours I have when you read this). I was pumped when I heard they were making a new Gears game and after seeing the graphics, the new mechanics they've added and much more, I can say this game to a Gears veteran is basically perfect to me!! I definitely recommend this game to anyone who wishes to get into this series!
As someone who grew up with Gears all the way back to when Gears 1 released on the 360, I think the changes made for this game were well needed. The movement and combat feel fantastic. The writing is good and the characters are all done well. It felt darker and grittier than the last three major titles of the series though not as much as the originals. I feel the campaign dragged on a little too long than it needed and I ran into quite a few crashes but I overall enjoy my time, even if I do think it should've stayed in the oven a little bit longer than it did. Horde Siege is fantastic, extremely refreshing and you can tell majority of their focus has gone into it. Versus is Versus and will always stay the same more or less, though thankfully with a lot less wallbouncing this time around, as that style of gameplay as seen in Gears 5 was one of many things killing the franchise. Versus is Versus and will always stay the same more or less, though thankfully with a lot less wallbouncing this time around, as that style of gameplay as seen in Gears 5 was one of many things killing the franchise. People have called this game the Halo: Reach of the series and they're not wrong. Which means it will be the most popular game in the series as we are already seeing with record high concurrent player counts compared to other games of the franchise, opening up Gears to a whole host of new players and ultimately saving the franchise as a whole.
loving the game so far
Just not what I've come to expect from a Gears of War game sadly. Won't say the game isn't fun, cause the multiplayer is a blast. Campaign is mid, not great, not terrible. But it launched with Ranked or Social playlists for multiplayer, no options for game types, all or nothing. I don't understand the refusal to just let players pick the game type they want to play. New hoard system is fun but they've completely removed the 50 wave option. It's Hoard blitz with 2 or 3 waves and side missions or "Regular" Hoard which is only 10 waves and some side missions, all the time they spent making the building system in hoard for previous Gears games is gone as well. Still really fun, just doesn't feel like a full launch game right now to me.

Not understanding a lot of criticism being thrown at this, the campaign is very fun, and its pretty cool seeing how it all started if youre into the gears story. Genuinely don't see the weird incel criticism given to the female cast members taking over the story, everyone gets their moments in this game. Guess they never played any previous gears games, as characters like Anya and Bernie etc have existed forever.

Game is a solid 8-9/10. The whole girlbossing, bait and switch discussion is blown way out of proportion. Gameplay is fantastic, feels like classic gears of war in every way. Story is also pretty damn good, and was unexpected considering how simplistic the older games were with its storytelling. Horde siege is extremely fun, with the new loadout system and the way it all works. Much better than the cards from Gears 5. All of the new enemies and returning ones are fun to fight against. With my only real complaint being the bilefrog isn't that much of a threat for what it is. Versus also seems to have been ironed out a good bit since the beta. Less sweats running around and try harding the entire time. It was one of the reasons the multiplayer usually ended up dying so quickly in every new gears game. Played the campaign through on insane on my own. Was fairly challenging in a lot of ways, mostly due to that it does seem like it was made with co-op in mind. But is definitely beatable solo. I personally didn't have an issue with captain Grey as a character, it seemed completely natural and like a commanding officer speaking to their subordinates. However, Mags can be quite annoying at times, and does seem like the character was through in to hit nearly every single diversity checkbox. Outside of that, I didn't have a single issue with the whole campaign. Had no crashes and pretty decent performance ingame. So if you are on the fence about getting it or not, while constantly seeing the spam about the wokeness of the game. It is not nearly as bad as they are saying, and is definitely not slapping you in the face the whole time. Just some annoyances that pop up now and then. Marcus and Dom are still very much the main characters, the others are all side characters for sure. It is a great game, and honestly I think if you skip out on it. You are actually missing out on playing an incredible shooter if nothing else.
So many negative reviews on here tying themselves up over something that isn't true. "Marcus isn't the main character" "It's a game about a girlboss" and it's a review with 1.2 hours played and nothing like that even happens in that time. They just saw a short haired woman with a gun and had a mental breakdown because they are in fact the biggest snowflakes. Game is great. Open world gears, satisfying combat, some great Fenix dialogue best in class visuals.
Gameplay is solid, enjoying it a lot so far Biggest gripe is one character in the story is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying as ♥♥♥♥ and gets treated like the main character for some reason
