Command a damaged scout ship in a living space colony survival sim. Wake your crew from cryostasis, secure water and food, build fragile settlements, trade or smuggle between factions, and survive the stories that emerge.

So many screens to read, no tooltips for character cration to explain the stats. First batch of characters in a colony survival sim has a trans character....
Good game !
This game has a bunch of potential, and I look forward to a time when that potential can shine. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to give it a 'no' for now. It has some pretty severe optimization and interface issues. The tutorials and menus are difficult to parse or navigate. I hope in a few updates I can revisit this review and delete it or even change it to a recommendation. The bones of fun game are here, they just need some meat added to them.
its a bit rough but so far very playable and i love it.
Project: Zenith Expanse — A cult classic in the making?
There’s something about Project: Zenith Expanse that makes me want to root for it. It has all the ingredients of a potential cult classic: a compelling sci-fi premise, slick-looking (AI-generated) creature artwork, and a sprawling sandbox that promises exploration, space travel, colony building, alien wildlife, and survival. If you’ve ever lost dozens of hours to RimWorld and wondered what it might look like with a whole galaxy to get lost in, you’ll probably understand the appeal. The premise is right up my alley. You’re a lone survivor trying to carve out a future in an unfamiliar universe, and there’s a lot to like about the collection of systems already in place. There are strange worlds to explore, resources to manage, settlements to establish, and plenty of opportunities to get yourself into trouble. The foundations are here, and they hint at the sort of emergent storytelling that makes these games so addictive. The problem? Right now, the game makes you work a little too hard to enjoy it. Zenith Expanse is rough around the edges, and nowhere is that more apparent than in its interface. Information is scattered across layers of windows and nested panels, making it unnecessarily difficult to understand what’s happening, why it’s happening, and what you’re supposed to do about it. Navigating the various menus can feel like opening a box, only to discover another box inside it. For a game built around managing interconnected systems, clarity is essential. I want to spend my time figuring out how to keep a colony alive, exploring an alien planet, or planning my next expedition—not wrestling with the UI to work out what went wrong. Exploring an "unknown" world that is already colonized by other factions, was a bit underwhelming as well. The sheer number of moving parts is promising, but they need to communicate with the player more intuitively. That leaves the current gameplay feeling a little bland at times. The ingredients are there, but the experience hasn’t quite found its rhythm. There’s a difference between a deep simulation that rewards experimentation and one that leaves you scratching your head because the interface hasn’t made the underlying systems clear. Still, I don’t want to be too harsh. There’s a genuine sense of personal investment behind Zenith Expanse, and it’s hard not to appreciate the ambition of a project trying to bring so many interconnected ideas together. This feels like a passion project, not a soulless exercise in chasing the latest survival-game trend. I’d genuinely love to see it come to fruition. That’s also why I think the development process will matter more than anything else. The developer has an opportunity to turn a promising collection of systems into something cohesive, readable, and genuinely engrossing. Better UI, clearer feedback, a more intuitive gameplay loop, and plenty of balancing and polish could make an enormous difference. My recommendation? Keep an eye on this one, but give it time to cook. There’s enough potential here to make Project: Zenith Expanse a fascinating little space-sim obsession, but I’m not convinced it’s there yet. If the developer continues to refine the experience, listens to feedback, and gives those promising systems the presentation they deserve, this could become something special. For now, I’m cautiously optimistic. The spark is there. I just want to see it catch fire.
So far Zenith Expanse looks to be exactly the type of niche I appreciate. It's Sci-Fi, there are survival aspects, trading, ship travel, colonies, task management, contracts to handle etc. The game is at its very beginnings however playwise. The Dev is very active in the Discord and the first patch after launch was in large part influenced by comments from a player. It is clearly a personal love project, so this looks like one of those titles Early Access was actually made for.
The artwork is nice and the story has some potential. Unfortunately the game is just an endless sea of repetitive UI screens and it is hard to know what is going on... where is my ship? Who is doing what? Who is assigned to which job? It's confounding and I guess I can't really play it like this. The concept overall I think has potential, but it needs a ton more polish.
The bones are there. The game has a ton of potential, the generation is already there and fairly decent, though in some parts, akin to starfield it boils down to "space is full of barren rocks". Definately not released at a stable state, there are genuine game breaking bugs that require you to restart the game, some of the mechanics seem lacking a lot of QOL features, there's little to no information as to what i found for some of the things, but no real issues that cannot be fixed in time that i found so far playing. Weirdly, the simulation was laggy when on ultimate graphics, which the game defaulted, but on medium it was fine, though i really didn't notice the difference in game. Good but undercooked, with potential.
